This portrait by French artist, Jean Baptiste-Camille Corot, has appeared on the blog a couple of times in the last six months. Both the painting and the frame were being cleaned, the painting by our paintings conservator, and the frame off-site by a frame conservator. The frame was finished first and returned to the museum.
The painting was then inserted in the newly bright frame several times during the painting phase of treatment, in order to check that after conservation, the painting and frame still work well together visually. Here the painting is framed and on an easel in its final, post-conservation state. Look to see the painting and frame return to the gallery later this year.
