
The Cincinnati Art Museum’s guided tours are designed to present a rich visual arts experience, increase students’ perception and analytical skills, and enrich school curriculum. Volunteer docents engage students in active looking and discussions by focusing on approximately six to eight works of art in a one-hour tour. The guided tour is planned and developed according to the information you provide the tour coordinator at the time of scheduling.
Scheduling a Tour
For your convenience, you may arrange a free tour by calling the tour coordinator at (513) 639-2975 or submitting an online request form Monday through Friday. Tours must be scheduled at least four weeks in advance. You will receive a pre-visit Teachers Guide with your tour confirmation, prior to your visit.
During Your Visit
School groups must be accompanied by at least one adult chaperone for every ten students. You and the chaperones are responsible for students’ behavior at all times, including compliance with all Cincinnati Art Museum regulations. To help you, your chaperones, and your students understand the Art Museum’s guidelines, a confirmation packet, including a brochure entitled Field Trip Guide containing suggested guidelines, will be mailed to you.
Special Needs
The Cincinnati Art Museum is wheelchair accessible. Tours are available in French, German, and Spanish. Please indicate whether your group has special needs.
Helpful Hints
Buses may drop off students in front of the Cincinnati Art Museum and park in the lot free of charge. Backpacks, umbrellas, bags, and other large items are not permitted in the galleries; we recommend that you leave these items on the bus. Coat bins are available for student tour groups. Only pencils are permitted in the permanent exhibitions. No writing utensils are permitted in special exhibitions.
Regrettably, the Art Museum does not have facilities for eating packed lunches so please leave all food on the buses.
The Art Museum provides buses through the Art Museum Bus for Kids Fund. Established by the volunteers of the Cincinnati Art Museum, the fund’s goal is to give school children the opportunity to visit the Art Museum for a guided tour.

Art museums collect and exhibit the best examples of works of art from all over the world. The exploration of art museum collections provides an opportunity for young children to discover emotions, new ideas, and innovation.
Through a Child's Eyes explores the idea of community from a range of viewpoints. Through a Child's Eyes consists of seven sequential learning units: three for pre-kindergarten and one each for kindergarten, first, second, and third grades. Each unit in the curriculum provides a central Focus Artwork, a Focus Book and a series of classroom activities that include a culminating art-making experience.

Planning to lead a self-guided tour at the Cincinnati Art Museum? Schedule your visit at least three weeks in advance by calling the tour coordinator at (513) 639-2975. Groups of fifty or fewer are permitted to self-guide during a one-hour time slot and are scheduled based on space availability. To provide the optimal educational experience, docent-guided groups have priority in the galleries. All groups must follow Art Museum regulations and are responsible for supplying one adult chaperone for every ten students.
If you are planning to conduct a self-guided tour between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., you will be required to participate in a one-hour teacher-training program at the Art Museum. This training will be held on the third Wednesday of the month in conjunction with Evenings for Educators.
