Mark Bradford is an internationally recognized and award-winning artist. He creates large-scale mixed media works that address topics including urban sprawl, the local affects of globalization, and borders. Bradford uses advertisements and billboard paper gathered from his South Los Angeles neighborhood as the materials for his work. Building up and sanding down multiple layers, his process reflects the locales in which he excavates materials. The expansive yet intricate canvases reference both geographic and psychological place. This exhibition features three of his recent works.
Bradford was featured in the Whitney Museum of Art’s 2006 Biennial and was the recipient of the 2006 Bucksbaum award, the largest award of its kind for contemporary artists. He has been featured in the PBS award winning series Art:21.
