Outside the Ordinary
will be the first public exhibition of selections from the nationally recognized collection of Cincinnatians Nancy and David Wolf. International in scope, this exhibition includes over sixty-five pieces by the foremost artists working in contemporary craft today. See how these artists challenge the material expectations of glass, wood, and ceramics to create contemporary works of art, and discover insights into the collectors’ perspective and impetus for assembling this important collection.

Catalogue
Outside the Ordinary: Contemporary Art in Glass, Wood, and Ceramics from the Wolf Collection is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue co-published with Ohio University Press. The catalogue features an in-depth interview with collectors Nancy and David Wolf conducted by Amy Dehan, Associate Curator of Decorative Arts and Design, which explores their strategies for collecting, their related journeys and personal anecdotes and their impetus for starting this renowned collection. The catalogue also includes a scholarly essay by contemporary craft authority and critic, Matthew Kangas that explores the history, growth and future of the craft movement as illustrated by the artwork in the Wolf Collection. Celebrate the opening of Outside the Ordinary: Contemporary Art in Glass, Wood, and Ceramics from the Wolf Collection with activities designed for all ages. Enjoy demonstrations by glass artist Mary Karg, ceramists from FunkeFired Arts, wood turners from the Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild, interactive performances with glass by artist Michael Bashaw, art making activities, and more.

Summer Art Connections: All Hands On Art
July 21–24, 1:30–3:30 p.m.
RESERVATIONS REQUIRED Cost per four class session: $100 general admission, $50 for Art Museum members.
Delve into art this summer at the Art Museum. Young artists ages 6 to 12 explore the intricacies of creating ceramic, wood, and glass objects by hand with inspired art-making activities and tours of the special exhibition Outside the Ordinary: Contemporary Glass, Wood, and Ceramics from the Wolf Collection. On Friday, they will showcase their work in an art show for parents and relatives.

Summer Teacher Institute: All Things 3D
July 28 – 30, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
RESERVATIONS REQUIRED $120 general admission; $60 for Art Museum members
Explore three-dimensional art in the special exhibitions Bessie Potter Vonnoh: Sculptor of Women and Outside the Ordinary: Contemporary Art in Glass, Wood, and Ceramics from the Wolf Collection, plus the Art Museum’s permanent collections, and learn how to incorporate it into your classroom. The three-day workshop features lectures, art making activities, docent-led tours, lesson plans and a field trip, plus breakfast and lunch daily. Participants also have the opportunity to earn one graduate-level credit hour through Ashland University.

Join collectors Nancy and David Wolf as they discuss the highlights of their collection in a gallery tour of the exhibition Outside the Ordinary: Contemporary Art in Glass, Wood, and Ceramics from the Wolf Collection. Hear stories from their international travels searching for art and learn how they acquired some of their favorite pieces. Attend one gallery tour or both – the improvised presentation will surely reveal different adventures each time.
