Notes: [1] The five Sauvage overdoor paintings entered the CAM's collection as a part of the Louis XVI Salon given by Mrs. Alfred Anson in 1945. In 1914 she acquired the paneling, and other elements of the period room, from Carlhian of Paris, Inc. The room was reconstructed at various times in both her New York and Paris apartments. In February 1913, Carlhian purchased the room from a Paris apartment on the Avuenue of Tourville. The Sauvage paintings are not included in the list of elements Carlhian found there (correspondence, April 5, 1950, 1945.73). It is believed that Anson acquired them from another source and subsequently added them to the period room. See curatorial files: Sauvage paintings, 1945.68-72; Louis XVI Salon, 1945.73.
