InDepth: Poetic Pastels with Esther Bell

November 09, 2013 - 02:00 pm to 03:00 pm

WHERE:
Attendees meet in Front Lobby

Pastel, a preferred medium for the eighteenth-century elite, falls from favor after the French Revolution. Thanks to an inventive generation of artists, the medium undergoes a rebirth less than a century later, producing some of the most important and celebrated works ever created. Dr. Esther Bell, Curator of European Paintings, Drawings, and Sculpture explores Degas, Renoir, and their contemporaries and their unique contribution to French art of the nineteenth century.
