Cincinnati Art Museum The objects conservator is being overrun with bowls! These are just a few of the more than 20 vessels that will be on view in our reinstalled Ancient and Near Eastern galleries, opening in the fall. The bowls are shown here face down with their custom-painted mounts attached. Pastel, a preferred medium for the eighteenth-century elite, falls from favor after the French Revolution. Thanks to an inventive generation of artists, the medium undergoes a rebirth less than a century later, producing some of the most important and celebrated works ever created. Dr. Esther Bell, Curator of European Paintings, Drawings, and Sculpture explores Degas, Renoir, and their contemporaries and their unique contribution to French art of the nineteenth century.
