Cincinnati Art Museum Behind the Scenes in Conservation: Our paintings conservator has been dealing with a straggler this summer. “St. Paul Visiting St. Peter in Prison” by Fernando Gallego, a wood panel from a late 15th century Spanish altarpiece, was taken down for conservation early last spring shortly before Gallery 204 was closed for renovation. The treatment was a major undertaking and even involved a significant amount of woodworking, so it was not completed by the time the early Renaissance gallery reopened in May. Below in a recent photo, the painting is shown on the easel during "inpainting," or retouching within the losses. The bright orange columns on either side of the scene were uncovered during conservation. The conservation treatment is nearly done. Look for the Gallego to reappear in Gallery 204 in the next couple of months. 12 hour ago via Facebook
