Cincinnati Art Museum One Week Away: “Building Pictures: Architectural Photographs by Edouard Baldus”, on view July 19 through October 26, presents a dozen photographs in our collection by Édouard Baldus, the leading architectural photographer in France during the 1850s and ’60s. Featuring images of the Louvre, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and other buildings and engineering feats throughout the country, this display demonstrates Baldus’s mastery of the new medium. Take a dramatic look at Benjamin West’s Hamlet: Act IV, Scene V in a discussion-based gallery talk that will explore the painting from a variety of angles. One of the earliest works in the collection, this larger than life painting is an excellent bridge between art and theater. Russell Ihrig, Coordinator of Interpretive Programming will lead the discussion.
