Cincinnati Art Museum Behind the Scenes in Conservation: Our objects conservator is working on a Japanese folding screen for the upcoming Masterpieces of Japanese Art exhibition. The screen has delicate bamboo shades set into the cart doors shown in each of its six panels. Over time some of the shades have warped and detached from their frames. The folding screen’s frame is also showing signs of wear. The lacquer is flaking and there are numerous rubs and chips in the surface. The objects conservator is working to clean and flatten the bamboo screens to fit them back into the panels and she is consolidating (applying adhesive) and inpainting losses in the lacquer frame. The painted portion of the screen will be a project for our paper conservator. You will be able to see this screen conserved and on display next year in the “Masterpieces of Japanese Art” from February 14th to August 30th 2015. 4 hour ago via Facebook

Slow Art Day

April 12, 2014 - 11:00 am to 01:00 pm

WHERE:
Attendees meet in Front Lobby

From SlowArtDay.com:

One day each year – April 12 in 2014 – people all over the world visit local museums and galleries to look at art slowly. Participants look at five works of art for 10 minutes each and then meet together over lunch to talk about their experience. That’s it. Simple by design, the goal is to focus on the art and the art of seeing.

Take a stroll with us through the galleries from 11 - 12 p.m. discussing 5 pieces of art chosen by Lisa Jameson, Associate Professor of Art Education at Northern Kentucky University.

From 12 - 1 p.m., enjoy a box lunch ($10/person) in the Castellini Room accompanied by conversations with Lisa and members of our Learning and Interpretation Staff.
