Cincinnati Art Museum Have you met "Ghost Cat"? :) Why do you think a cat was roaming around CAM in the 1940s? What would you have named this spooky kitty? Interesting to think about! Our Mary R. Schiff Library Archivist Geoff found some interesting info on the history of felines at the Art Museum... “As it happens, I was looking through some of the museum’s old account books recently and noticed there used to be a weekly order for “cat meat”. Could this have been an offering to appease the spirit of ghost cat..? Or maybe it was just to feed the museum’s resident mouser, but that’s not so spooky!” #throwbackthursday #halloween. MamLuft&Co. Dance was named by CityBeat as Cincinnati’s Best Dance Company Pushing the Envelope in 2012. MamLuft&Co. Dance’s seventh season features thoughtful, original, highly physical, and athletic Modern Dance, and the Company is delighted to partner with Cincinnati Art Museum to remember the World War I hundred-year anniversary.

The Cincinnati Art Museum and MamLuft&Co. Dance co-present a tour and performance centered on Cincinnati Art Museum’s special exhibit, Cries in the Night: German Expressionist Prints around World War I. The evenings begin with guided tours of the special exhibition and conclude in the Art Museum’s monumental Great Hall, where MamLuft&Co. Dance will perform a modern work. The Modern Dance performance is inspired by the exhibit and the Expressionist movement itself, a pivotal era in both visual art and dance.

This Art Museum’s exhibition of prints traces the avant-garde and the concurrent renaissance in the graphic arts, particularly printmaking, with the founding of the Brücke in 1905, through the devastating and transformative impact of the artist’s careers after Germany entered World War I in August 1914, and its aftermath during the early years of the Weimar Republic.

CINCINNATI REMEMBERS WWI: This program is presented as part of “Cincinnati Remembers WWI,” a citywide series of events commemorating the centenary of the First World War and anticipating Cincinnati Opera’s production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Silent Night in July 2014.
