Cincinnati Art Museum Behind the Scenes in Conservation: On a Closed day. Sometimes we need more space than our Conservation labs provide. Below, on a recent Monday when the museum was closed, we took over the Great Hall for the morning. We had a large contemporary painting on canvas that was due to be rolled for storage, and this was the best place to do it. Here some helpers from the Registration department are removing the dozens of tacks that secured the painting to its multi-membered stretcher. The painting was rolled face out on the large cardboard tube behind them, along with an interleaving material, then wrapped. (It’s done face-out so that the paint is not compressed in a concave orientation.) The stretcher was taken apart, as it’s designed to, and the rolled painting and stretcher were moved to storage. To exhibit the painting in the future, the stretcher will be reassembled and the painting re-stretched on it. This is a common conservation procedure with large modern paintings on canvas, though one that we always need to scheme to find floor space to perform! 1 hour ago via Facebook

  • Two first edition folio copies of "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe and illustrated by Gustave Dore, published in 1884.
  • A selection (10 separate bundles offered) of the 1920s French Fashion Magazine "Gazette Du Bon Ton" and Gazette Du Bon Genre", each containing vibrant color illustrations, many are Pochoirs, of Art Deco fashion by the leading illustrators of the day.

The pick up for this sale will be at the "Everything But The House" warehouse at:
