Sarah Vanderlip: Drawings for Sculptures of Buildings

September 29, 2012 to December 09, 2012

Los Angeles-based Sarah Vanderlip received her MFA in Sculpture from Yale University. Her series, Drawings for Sculptures of Buildings is inspired by her architect father whose utilitarian approach to building things, his love and study of design, and his hands-on acumen profoundly influenced Vanderlip to become an artist and specifically to pursue sculpture.

This year marks the inaugural Marjorie Schiele Prize, a triennial competition that honors the work and legacy of Marjorie Schiele, a Cincinnati artist and benefactor. The international juried competition was open to living artists who present a vision or model for transforming our present reality by stretching the limitations of painting and sculpture. The jurors, who selected Sarah Vanderlip as the inaugural Marjorie Schiele Prize winner, included Claudia Gould, Director, Jewish Museum (New York), Max Hollein, Director, Städel Museums (Frankfurt, Germany) and Aaron Betsky , Director, Cincinnati Art Museum Director.
