With the renovation of the former Art Academy building complete, the Art Museum will embark on Phase B of its Vision Master Plan. Phase B will let the Art Museum use spaces that come free after the move to the Art Academy building to expand the Cincinnati Wing, create new galleries, and a new education center. The Rosenthal Education Center will be located in the heart of the Art Museum comprising 2,300 square feet of space. We hope you will share in our excitement as we plan for these major changes.
The Art Museum’s new Rosenthal Education Center will be situated in the heart of the Art Museum, where the former Mary R. Schiff Library and Archives was previously located. The new space will include more square feet dedicated to educational activities for individuals and families visiting the Art Museum. With staff offices relocated to the Longworth Wing and painting storage moved to an offsite facility, the Education Center will be surrounded by newly created or renovated galleries. The addition of new galleries will expand the Cincinnati Wing and the collections on display, while also greatly improving the Art Museum’s public circulation route. This improved circulation route will enable visitors to travel from gallery to gallery and experience our collection in a more cohesive way. Renovation work in the new gallery spaces and Rosenthal Education Center will start in June 2014 with an expected completion date of early 2015.
Thanks to a gracious donation made in honor of the Cincinnati Art Museum Volunteers, our Main Lobby will undergo renovations beginning June 30. The lobby will remain open to visitors throughout the duration of this transformation, culminating in a friendly, visitor-centered space, with a new coffee bar, lounge area and expanded Museum Shop. The design is a result of a collaboration with Macy’s, furthering our mission of bringing people and art together. The revamped lobby will debut the week of July 22, 2014.
The Terrace Café also received a new look, made possible by a gift from Marty and Nick Ragland. The Café reopened on July 15, 2014 with upgraded features with new artwork coming soon to accompany your dining experience. Stop by and experience the new space indoors or take advantage of the beautiful weather and views of the Alice Bimel Courtyard by dining on our outdoor terrace. As always, Art Museum Members receive a 10% discount when dining in the Terrace Cafe.
