Seascape, n.d.
Oil on canvas
24 x 31 in. (61 x 78.7 cm)
Gift of Mrs. George Hoadly, 1942.138

A seascape and bright sky are the focus of the composition. A sailboat floats in the distance at right, and a man in a red shirt sits in boat in the lower left corner. Buildings are visible along the shore in the left background.

Until 1942:   Mrs. Georges Hoadly, Cincinnati, given to [1]
1942-present:   Cincinnati Art Museum

[1] Mrs. Hoadly may have owned Seascape as early as 1921 when she loaned a painting by Ziem to an exhibition of French paintings at the CAM, organized by the Ladies Auxiliary Committee, March 17 to March 31. No checklist with titles and dimensions of the exhibited paintings exists to clarify if Seascape was included. The list of lenders and artists is held in the CAM archives, Director's Incoming Correspondence, Box 90, Folder F, page 747.
