Today Buddhism stands as the fourth largest religion in the world with millions of adherents globally. Since the 6th century, Buddhism has been particularly influential to Japanese visual culture as is evidenced in numerous extant temples, paintings, sculptures and manuscripts. Join museum educator, Nicole Kroger, and explore the Art Museum’s Japanese Buddhist sculptures and influences with a focus on the Edo Period sculpture, Seated Buddha on Throne (1949.94).
