Cincinnati Art Museum Behind the Scenes in Conservation: Upside down and inside out! Several wool shawls dating from the 18th and 19th centuries were being repacked for storage when this one caused some confusion: which side is the “right side” (the side that should go “out” when the shawl is worn)? The decorated paisley borders have been sewn “right sides to wrong sides” at two corners. A sloppy seamstress’ mistake? A prescient deconstructivist design choice? Not at all! This shawl is a giant square intended to be folded along the diagonal when worn: the mis-matched corners are actually a clever adjustment to allow both folded halves to be “right sides out” when in use. 3 hour ago via Facebook



Art After Dark: Shine Up the Night

Kick off your weekend with some Razzle Dazzle at this month’s Art After Dark. Enjoy the flash and excitement of Midwest Latino and Dare to Dance as they perform in our Great Hall from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Live music provided by DJ Rudy Alvarez and The Amador Sisters. In February, over 650 people came to dance with Midwest Latino at Art After Dark! Join us for another night of dazzling dance moves and dazzling silver.


Docent-led tours of our sparkling, brand new exhibition, Cincinnati Silver: 1788-1940, will meet in the Great Hall at 5:30 p.m. (members-only), 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (open to the general public).

Fill out a survey in our lobby and you and three of your friends could win a Parisian themed VIP area complete with appetizers, an optional wine tasting* and a docent-led tour of Building Pictures: Architectural Photographs by Édouard Baldus (July 19 - October 26, 2014), featuring a dozen photographs from the Art Museum collection by Édouard Baldus, the leading architectural photographer in France during the 1850s and ’60s. Art After Dark: Ooh La La will also include performances by The Faux Frenchmen & Madame Gigi’s Can Can Dancers from 6 - 8pm.
