Lotus Flower Painting

Join us for a unique program for adult audiences to try out a new art t echnique. Learn more about the exhibition Fro m Shanghai to Ohio: Woo Chong Yung (1898–1989) with a discussion in the galleries led by museum staff. Then\, gather in the Rosenthal Education Center (REC) for a lesson on how to paint graceful lo tus flowers using ancient ink and wash techniques with Yufeng Wang\, PhD\ , professor and artist. Highly esteemed in Buddhism and Chinese and East Asian cultures\, the intriguing lotus flower symbolizes purity\, elegance \, and enlightenment. The goal of Chinese ink and wash painting is not si mply to reproduce the appearance of the subject\, but to capture its soul .

About the Teaching Artis t: 

\n

Yufeng Wang\, PhD\, is a professor and a Chinese brush painting artist based in Dayton\, Ohio. As a teenager\, h er love of traditional Chinese art was inspired by renowned artists Sun Q ifeng and Fan Zeng in Tianjin\, China. Dr. Wang’s artwork aspires to create a sense of peace and ha rmony in nature and humanity. Her paintings have received many awards inc luding the Dayton Painters and Sculptors Award and the Burnell Roberts Pu rchase Award. Dr. Wang’s w ork is in the collection of numerous institutions including Sinclair Coll ege and Wright State University. She has taught brush painting at the Day ton Association of Artists\, Dayton Metro Public Library\, Dayton Miami V alley Schools\, Wright State University\, Sinclair College\, the Dayton B usiness and Technology High School\, Dayton Woman’s Club\, and the 2022 D ayton Art in the City Event. Dr. Wang was the f eatured artist in the March 2023 Art Exhibition at the Springboro Perform ing Arts Center.
