&amp\; Tea
Hidden Stories in Early American Interi
ors with Dr. Jennifer Van Horn
\n
As art m
useums and historic sites across the country readdress their presentation
s of American art\, overlooked narratives are coming to the fore. These i
nclude the relationship between enslavement and refinement within early A
merican interiors and the works of art that animated them. Join Dr. Jenni
fer Van Horn of the University of Delaware as she reveals more about the
unpaid laborers who created objects made of fine materials like mahogany
and silver\, and the work of enslaved people required to maintain and use
these artworks. Thinking through our museum’s Colonial and Federal Galle
ry which features the collection of the NSCDA Ohio\, Van Horn will consid
er the power of shifting traditional narratives to encompass Black expert
ise\, labor\, and creativity.
\n
Lecture begins in the Fath Auditori
um at 2:00 p.m. with tea to follow in the Great Hall and Terrace Cafe.</p
