Mr. and Mrs. Paul Geier, Cincinnati and Rome, before January 1953-1983, placed on long-term loan to the Art Museum, Princeton University, 1974-1982, L153.74, by bequest to; Cincinnati Art Museum, 1983-present. Notes: [1] Magnasco did several versions of this subject. The CAM's painting may be the same one Benno Geiger listed in 1949 as being in the Collection Valenti and formerly with the Gallerie Lurati, Milan, in 1946. Although Geiger's dimensions for the work are slightly different (60 x 80 cm), a letter from Erika de Frey, wife of A. C. de Frey, on January 24, 1953 to Paul Geier supports that the painting discussed by Geiger is the one currently in the CAM's collection. De Frey stated that she found in her late husband's papers a postcard from Geiger that mentioned the painting was on page 114 in his book and formerly in the Collection Valenti, Milan. Benno Geiger, Magnasco, Bergamo: Istituto Italiano d'arti grafiche, 1949, 114.
