Mr. and Mrs. Johnathan Griffin, London, ?-ca. 1943, sold to; (Theodore Schempp, New York, ca. 1943, sold to); Lillian S. Adler [d.1979], Cincinnati, ca. 1943-1979, given with life interst to [4]; Cincinnati Art Museum, 1979-present. Notes: [1] Marie Laurencin, Galerie Paul Rosenberg, Paris, 1921, no. 4. [2] Published as being in George Bénard's collection in Albert Flament, "Arabesques sur Marie Laurencin," La Renaissance d l'art français, September 1924, p. 479. [3] An annotated copy of the auction catalogue from the June 9, 1933, Hôtel Drouot sale, held at the Getty Research Institute, identifies Duveen as the purchaser of the painting. [4] Adler gave the painting to the CAM in 1964 with life interest reserved. The work did not actually come to the CAM until after her death in 1979.
