Provenance:
Thomas Dawson, Viscount of Cremorne [1732-1813], Ireland, acquired after 1770 and before 1785-? [1]. Private collection, Genoa [2]; [Paul Drey Gallery, New York, by 1938,] when acquired by the CAM. Notes: [1] A seal on the back of the painting identifies Thomas Dawson, Viscount of Cremorne, as a former owner. He became Baron Dartrey in 1770 and Viscount Cremorne in 1785. Dawson likely acquired the painting sometime during these years because the seal was has only a baron's coronet. Correspondence, September 20, 1993. [2] According to Paul Drey Gallery the painting came from a family in Geneo, correspondence, July 28, 1938. Correspondence with the gallery on March 4, 1992 did not offer any additional information.
