1959-present; Received through his mother's estate, gave to the CAM.; Bequeathed to her son.; Received as a gift. Bequeathed to his wife, Bertha.; Reportedly purchased at Thomas Freeman Auctioneers, Philadelphia. Frederick W. King, Jr. indicated in a letter of November 5, 1959, that A. Atwater Kent bought the paitning from Thomas Feeman Auctioneers in the late 1930s. Today known as S. T. Freeman & Co., the auction house does not have specific auction sale records and did not find the painting in any auction catalogues dating from 1935 to 1940. See correspondence, February 7, 2002.
