For Art in Bloom, fashion designer ASHA AMA offers an intimate reflection on her journey from an isolated, misunderstood student to an internationally recognized creative. Inspired by the proverb, “They threw dirt on us, not knowing we were seeds,” she explores how moments that felt like setbacks, rejection, or pressure became the very soil that cultivated her voice and vision. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP program, she refined her craft through cooperative placements with ready-to-wear and couture houses before appearing on Project Runway: Under the Gunn and Project Runway All-Stars. She has since designed for global stages, museums, and celebrity clients while remaining rooted in authenticity and cultural storytelling.
This lecture centers on authorship—on learning to belong to oneself, establishing new standards for how artists are treated, and creating safer, more intentional spaces for emerging creatives. It is a meditation on resilience, boundaries, and the discipline required not only to survive an industry, but to bloom within it.
