In Objects Conservation: These two 5-6th C stucco panels are in the lab for treatment. The Sasanian panels depict two ibexes leaping at a vine. Panels like this would serve as decorative architectural elements on a building. On the reverse side of these panels, several large cracks can be seen.
The objects conservator is working to get x-rays of both panels to understand the extent of the cracking and identify any voids that might be present. This will tell us how stable the piece is and whether any structural repairs will be necessary. Stay tuned to see what the x-rays tell us!
